Our Story

Picture
Our business name, Synovus Technology, reflects our purpose. Synecology is the branch of ecology that focuses on the biology of relationships between different animals, and plants, within ecological communities. This includes predation, a deadly interaction that may cause the decline of vulnerable populations.
The Greek prefix of 'syn-' means 'united', 'novus' is Latin for 'new', and 'technology' is the practical application of scientific knowledge. Synovus Technology seeks a fresh, new, unification of biological communities unbalanced by predation by using research, innovation and performance to shift the equilibrium of predation and make invasive predators the prey.

Our Logo

Our Modal Control logo reflects our ecological focus. Whereas some see a target, and we certainly target the control of pests and predators, our logo is a representation of the famous predator prey ecological cycle.

Although developed in a simple ecological community the model provides a great insight into the complex dynamics of predator prey interactions, especially over long periods of time. You can read more about this famous model here.

This mathematical model was developed and graphed from studying, among other species, the numbers of pelts of snowshow hare and lynx sold annually to the Hudson Bay Trading Company by Canadian fur trappers.

Lynx hunt snowshoe hares. Their predator prey cycle moves through four principal modes beginning at the bottom of the graph.
Picture
  • In the lower right quadrant increasing numbers of hares along the horizontal axis lead to increasing numbers of lynx on the vertical axis.
  • In the upper right quadrant the increasing numbers of lynx cause a declining number of hares as the lynx overhunt their prey.
  • In the upper left quadrant the numbers of both hares and lynx decline as the lynx run out of prey and their numbers begin to decrease.
  • In the lower left quadrant the number of hares finally begin to recover as a result of reduced lynx predation and the surviving hares breed faster than their predator. The lynx continue declining as their recovery lags behind the hares, before the cycle begins again.
